Choke, come get it. You've got your back against the wall and all the exits covered. So don’t even think about it. Choke, oh shit yeah You feel your chin against my balls? I’ll take your exit over Here for new experiences. And that’s what you get. You can thank me later. Choke, release it He found a way to take you home The fourth of all his buddies All the guys he’s getting drunk with Choke, you need it She liked him once but never more. Enjoying new positions, all the ones that I couldn't have... they hurt her too bad. Cerebellum, don’t you mean his heart? We are slowly interceding. Get back, don’t talk to me You’re not my friend not anymore Get back, don’t talk to me You’re not my friend not anymore Get back, don’t talk to me You’re not my friend not anymore Get back, don’t talk to me You’re not my friend you never were In regards to forgiveness, I think I’m good, I think I’m good to go on that. In regards to forgiveness, I think I’m good, I think I’m good to go on that. In regards to forgiveness, I think I’m good, I think I’m good to go on that.

Silver Arrow 02:32
This is the mark for the pass. Make sure you don’t get a bad grade. This is the kerb that will bite your wings and ruin our whole day. This is the grip in the wet, making me wish things were dry. This is the cost to commit when I’m still wishing you would do this for me now. Baby, baby, baby when you’re on the brakes, you will feel all my passion in the overtakes. When I win, I win, I win for you, so out of my way. This is the gap at the end. Make sure you put in a good time. This is the place where the pedals jam and let you know I’m gambling with my life. Baby, baby, baby when you’re on the brakes, you will feel all my passion in the overtakes. When I win, I win, I win for you. So keep the crowds all singing, and I will keep the engine hot. You could hold your heart in secret, and we could never, ever talk. Or you return to me in season, and I will keep the tires warm. You can’t have my silver arrow, its all I’ll ever really know. Its all I’ll ever really know. Its all I’ll ever really know. Its all I’ll ever really….

You’ve been recorded, can’t you take it in stride? We know you’ve called her just a million times. So when she’s sleeping, yeah, we creep in her room, whisper betrayal while she’s dreaming of you. So get me the President, I know he’s on the other line. So if you’re listening please start doing your job. He was a good boy until her love was gone. And I’m further inland when he drives to her home, breaks through the window while she’s sleeping all alone. So Mr. President, can we please get a detail there? Well I’m no friend of the bone digger never been said please note the difference. You can’t even start to bring me down, ain’t never be enough to bring me down anyways. Find me a priest of the hokey pokey, I’ll make my match on the market. Baby you still find a way to bring me down, down. We believe we should know: why this mess? Not your bed. We don’t care, no excuse, something wrong with his head. We all know, you can’t hide. I’m no beau of the byte miner, took my chance when I got it. Baby you still find a way to let me down, down. And we’ll always love you, yeah, wherever you are. We’ll keep you safe, dear, as we watch from afar. All that we ask you is you give us your all. Give into me before I leave in the fall. So Mr. President, don’t you think that we’re sick of lies? Well I’m no friend of the bone digger never been said please note the difference. You can’t even start to bring me down, ain’t never be enough to bring me down anyways. Find me a priest of the hokey pokey, I’ll make my match on the market. You can't even start to bring me down, ain't never be enough to bring me down anyways. I’m no beau of the byte miner, took my chance when I got it. Baby you still find a way to let me down, down. So get me the President.

The Weather 05:02
Twice more the merrier, its often come between us. A one track mind won’t shoot up the vine, when you know that he comes around blowing us down. Some more than others, as though that makes a reason. Hope you’re fine cause the county line’s dry, one time nah maybe more. As for your name, we will take its place, we write down your number, pull you out of the race. Thanks for the effort, just a little too late. We write down your number, pull you out of the race. Oh goddamn Oh goddamn True as the weather, we used to be together. Hopeful score when you’re looking for more, and you know that he comes around blowing us down. I’m not as patient, I bet you would prefer it. The crowd demands have the ball in his hands, first down second down, when its fourth and goal. You’ve been such a bad girl, little piggy, so stand by what you’re squealing. Never been a bad one ever born, but some story’s being told so I’m getting the rope and saying We can’t tell the difference, little piggy, if you never said no. Are you hoping they’re freeing your soul or making him choke when the big bad wolf at the end of the rope, said: “Shut up, girl, give it to me.” For all the things you do so well: please stop please stop this machine. Is any reason good enough? Its not your machine now. And the preacher says: You’ve been such a bad girl, little piggy, so stand by what you’re squealing. Never been a bad one ever born, but some story’s being told so I’m getting the rope and saying We can’t tell the difference, little piggy, if you never said no. Are you hoping they’re freeing your soul or making him choke when the big bad wolf at the end of the rope, said: I said, “No.” I said, “No.” I said, “No, no, no, that’s too far, I’m not some whore for the big bad wolf.” As for your name, we will take its place, we write down your number, pull you out of the race. Thanks for the effort, just a little too late. We write down your number, pull you out of the race. Oh goddamn Oh goddamn Oh goddamn Oh goddamn And when the jury’s here, you’ll hear just what you wanna hear. The cops won’t come, Daddy go get your gun, cause he sure ain’t the only one blowing us down.

Quiet in the dark room. Something in the water burns. Don’t blink or you’ll miss it. Learn from your mistakes and don’t forget her name. But I am not a liar I’ve been all out to drown in conversation while you fade out. Maybe we’re just broken and you don’t give a damn. This thing is done if you walk out. This thing is done if you walk away. Make you what you’re asking. Sign the line right here, but please my children don’t come all at once. Locked it without the key, locked it without any sense of heart. In the dark, terrified beyond all reason and control. Something without the rest, something without all its crucial parts. Though we shared, how I wish I’d never known you in that tender way at all. But I am not a liar I’ve been all out to drown in conversation while you fade out. Maybe we’re just broken and you don’t give a damn. This thing is done if you walk out. This thing is done if you walk away. This thing is done... This thing is done... This thing is done... This thing is done if you walk away.

If filling our pockets means cutting our options, Then we must be proud of what we’re not. If running the tables, we’re ready and willing, Hold onto your clothes you slut. If winning the bowl games means Eskimo siblings, Then we must be glad that we are not. So chart up the standings, pull me from the rankings, My talents are drafted to the pros. But you will never know. So give us the ghosts of those you’ve wanted, We do not believe in what you offer. Lift up your voices, a chorus of praise, Drown out your worries and prep school disgrace. Call to us loudly while down on one knee, And know we are with you, for we have set you… Free….Free Free Free
7.
Please note when you stand in our presence, you should act in concordance with the talent and greatness we hold in our hands Yeah, we are the beautiful people with an intellect standard And we’re not full of shit, no seriously. Please, can we stop talking about this? If this is the road you will walk down, then you’ll need a new wardrobe And a mindset for margins and profits that stick Just give me a six-figure income and job in consulting I will suck on your dick, hashtag seriously. Please, can we stop talking about this Please, can we stop talking about this, I’ll explode Please, can we stop talking about this Please, can we stop talking about this, I’ll explode Yeah baby I’m ready to go Yeah baby I’m ready to go Yeah baby I’m ready to go You’ll try but you can’t defeat me. One day you’ll be dead and I won’t have to listen Tired of your bullshit make it go away. One day you’ll be dead, dancing in the moonlight If I am still alive, then you'll spin in your grave. One day you’ll be dead, joyful in the network Celebrate our time here, so young and unafraid Soon it will be gone, I'm thanking god and... Please, can we stop talking about this Please, can we stop talking about this, I’ll explode Yeah baby I’m ready to go Yeah baby I’m ready to go Yeah baby I’m ready to go Yeah baby I’m ready to go Yeah baby I’m ready to go Yeah baby I’m ready to go Yeah baby I’m ready to go Yeah baby I’m ready to go Yeah baby I’m ready to go Yeah baby I’m ready to go Yeah baby I’m ready to go C'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon

How your age is burdening, topped with multicolored strings. And every word your mentors screamed they filled you up. How we loved you then much more. Loved you more than they’d allow. Love that boosted exam scores to let you drink from sacred plastic cups. But in the morning, please remind us of your name. In the quest for these certificates you all look much the same. And in the morning, can we count on your support to repay us for our services? Just what you can afford at this time. How your age is burdening, and all the world your kindling dry. So when you set this world on fire don’t burn me up or feed me to the lions.

Pull on the rope, is it tight? Sentimental but now Here, in the dark, giving light, we can hear the thunder. And take what you will of our homes, if you wish to face us here is it so, is it thus? You overspeak, overscream, more than we could ever So, is it true, is it you? Is there something we could Take what you will, of our homes if you wish to face us here in the dark, giving blood, we can help you find it. We can help you find it. We can help you find it. We can help you find it. You need to open the door. Bless us all No, I’m not down if you’re leaving. Like skeleton airplanes out in the snow We’re gonna take it away, you’re out of control so how bout leave me alone? Pull on the rope, is it tight? Sentimental but now here, in the dark, giving/seeking life, we can hear the thunder. Take what you will, of our homes if you wish to face us here in the dark, giving blood, we can help you find it. We can help you find it. We can help you find it. We can help you find it. We can help you find it.

"They're through the barricades. Oh I'm sorry baby, I know you told me not to go but if not... if not me then who? I... I promise next time things will be different. Oh, I'm sorry. If you see my dad again, you tell him. You tell everyone. Do that for me."

I get out of line when you’re far away. Put it on a one way ride tonight. Could you ever forget? You know how to run, but I need to hide. Thinking bout walking it off tonight. Would it ever be the same? Did you check inside the wastebaskets? There may yet be one more. My love, I know it hurts right now. But I’m never gonna do it again. Houses are dark. The end is nigh. Thinking bout paying her off tonight. With the disconnection fee. Did you check inside the wastebaskets? There may yet be one more. My love, I know it hurts right now. But I’m never gonna do it again. But I’m never gonna do it again. Have faith, dear, watch your back. But I’m never gonna do it again. Its over, don’t get mad. But I’m never gonna do it again. Have faith, dear, watch your back. But I’m never gonna do it again. Its over, don’t get mad. But I'm never gonna do it again, No I'm never gonna do it again, No I'm never gonna do it again, Oh I swear I'll never do it again. But we know you’re gonna do it again. But we know you’re gonna do it again. But we know you’re gonna do it again. But we know you’re gonna do it again. But we know you’re gonna do it again. Have faith, dear, watch your back. But we know you’re gonna do it again. Its over, don’t get mad. But we know you’re gonna do it again. Have faith, dear, watch your back. But we know you’re gonna do it again. Its over.... Don’t get, don’t get mad. A clock doesn’t care for your neglect. Don’t get mad. No, not anymore, you’re free. Again... Again...... Again....

about

(Note: I've decided to release this totally free instead of having the option to "Name Your Price." I'm not Radiohead and I'm not trying to make money off my music, so if you like it, buy me a beer or something)

It’s nearly been three years since Kris Brown and I recorded “Sophia.” The oldest songs here date back to the months right after we released that in November of 2010. The newest song is, at the time of release, less than four days old.

Lots of things have changed. I was an angry person for a long time, a self-destructive and self-hating angry, angry person. When writing started, this was going to be an angry record, it was going to have a lot of screaming: it was going to be a giant fuck-you to the things I was angry about.

These days, I haven’t been as angry, which is frankly an exhausting state to be in. The first draft of “Educacion” was finished in April of 2012. It had 9 songs. Of those 9, only 3 remain. Things are different today, in August of 2013, than they were over a year ago. Those old feelings, those old angry songs just don’t quite fit anymore.

In part, maybe that’s some sellout part of me talking, though. What was going to be an alienating album is now much less so. Maybe I want people to like it more, maybe I hope that, if people like these songs, then they will like me as well. Finishing this record is more relieving than anything. It took long enough, many late hours fueled by cigarettes and beer. I’ve heard some of these songs 500+ times. I don’t even know if they’re good songs anymore.

“Sophia” was a lot of my emotional baggage wrapped up in synths and keyboards. If there is one thing I am proud of in the record, it is the lyrics. The heart is no longer on the sleeve, but it is still there. Songs of immense personal meaning are more literary. In “The Weather,” I wrote lyrics about a much-publicized case of sexual assault involving football players in Montana, trying to put my oft-overwhelming heart onto someone else’s sleeve. In “Silver Arrow,” I wrote about the high-profile breakup between a Formula 1 driver and his longtime girlfriend. These lyrics, these stories are not so self-centered anymore.

There are better things to thing of than my own goddamn problems all the time. And maybe, some of these better things are stories we can consider and reflect on

I wanted to thank my friends who have seen this project at various points and displayed even muted enthusiasm. I remember showing some of the old, screamy stuff to my senior-year roommates and friends and being met with confused silence. I am confident you will like these songs better. If not, I will try better sometime in the next five years. Maybe. We’ll have to see.

Thanks to my dad for his contributions, to my mom for general motherly tasks, to Rafer for his trumpet, Matt for his keen ears, and Virginia for her photos. And, in no particular order, to

The Runners: Kris, Russell, Eric, Matt, Kevin, Alexa, Brian Conroy, Sutter, Poyhonen, Tim, DMax, Peanut, Lisa, Lucas, Alison, Emery, Kate, Cupcake, Lacey, Pitcavage, Paul, Anders, Hale and everyone else that enjoys being a masochist.

The Nappies, all of you, who are too glorious in numbers to begin to name.

My great friends in Missoula: Nick Darwin, Eric, Brian, Geoff, Jeremy, Bauer, and the whole crew that goes to Sean Kellys Trivia.

And a selection of other people who do not conform so neatly to groups: Nate, KDubs, Madeline, Cathy, Ryan, Taylor, Grant, Tepper, lots more, too.

And my brother Mike, of course, duh.

And Thank YOU for listening. Daniel and the Dragon rides again today, in all its emo glory.

Dan

PS. Yes I know "Educacion" is missing an accent. Frankly I was sick and tired of having to copy-paste it every time I wanted to type the album name. Also, perhaps you can appreciate the irony of "Education" in Spanish being spelled wrong. Yes? No? Yeah, same here.
